Buccal Fat Removal

Buccal fat pad removal is a specialized cosmetic procedure aimed at achieving a slimmer, more contoured appearance in the cheeks. This procedure is ideal for individuals who have prominent or disproportionately chubby cheeks due to excess buccal fat.

  • Under Dr. Levites' expert care, buccal fat pad removal is performed with precision and attention to detail. The procedure is typically performed under local anesthesia with sedation to ensure your comfort throughout the surgery. Through a small incision inside the mouth, Dr. Levites carefully accesses and removes the buccal fat pad, sculpting the cheeks to create a more defined and balanced facial appearance.

  • By reducing the size of the buccal fat pad, the procedure effectively contours the cheeks, providing a slimmer and more sculpted facial profile. This can help achieve a more youthful and harmonious balance between the cheeks and other facial features.

  • Following buccal fat pad removal, patients may experience mild swelling and discomfort, which typically subsides within a few days. • Open Rhinoplasty: A small incision between the nostrils, allowing for more intricate adjustments and precise visualization of nasal structures.

  • In addition to aesthetic enhancements, rhinoplasty can improve nasal function by addressing structural issues such as a deviated septum or enlarged turbinates. These improvements aim to optimize nasal airflow and breathing capacity.

  • Recovery and Results:

Following rhinoplasty, patients can expect temporary swelling and bruising, which typically subside within a few weeks. Liquid Rhinoplasty

Liquid rhinoplasty, also known as non-surgical rhinoplasty or non-surgical nose job, is a minimally invasive procedure offered by Dr. Levites to reshape and refine the appearance of the nose without surgery. This innovative technique involves the use of injectable fillers to achieve natural-looking results and enhance facial harmony.

  • Liquid rhinoplasty involves strategically injecting dermal fillers, such as hyaluronic acid-based products like Restylane or Juvederm, into specific areas of the nose. This technique allows Dr. Levites to:

    • Correct nasal asymmetry

    • Smooth bumps or irregularities on the bridge of the nose

    • Lift and define the nasal tip

    • Improve overall nasal contour

  • Rhinoplasty involves meticulous surgical techniques to reshape the nasal structure. Dr. Levites employs various maneuvers tailored to each patient's unique anatomy, such as:

    • Dorsal Hump Reduction: Removing excess bone to smooth the profile.

    • Tip Refinement: Reshaping cartilage to achieve a more defined and proportional nasal tip.

    • Septoplasty: Correcting a deviated septum to improve breathing.

    Incision Techniques:

Depending on the complexity of the procedure, Dr. Levites may use:

    • Endonasal Method: Incisions hidden within the nostrils, suitable for simpler corrections and minimizing external scarring.

    • Open Rhinoplasty: A small incision between the nostrils, allowing for more intricate adjustments and precise visualization of nasal structures.

    • Non-Surgical Solution: Liquid rhinoplasty offers a non-surgical alternative to traditional rhinoplasty, making it suitable for patients who prefer minimal downtime and less invasive treatments.

    • Immediate Results: Patients can see immediate improvements in nasal contour and symmetry following the procedure.

    • Customized Approach: Dr. Levites tailors each treatment to the unique facial anatomy and aesthetic goals of the patient, ensuring natural-looking results.

  • While liquid rhinoplasty is generally safe, there are potential complications to consider:

    • Bruising and Swelling: Some patients may experience temporary bruising, swelling, or redness at the injection sites. This typically resolves within a few days but can persist longer in some cases.

    • Injection Site Reactions: Rarely, patients may develop a reaction at the injection site, such as tenderness, itching, or firmness. These reactions are usually mild and resolve spontaneously.

    • Asymmetry or Overcorrection: Achieving perfect symmetry with injectable fillers can be challenging. In some cases, asymmetry or overcorrection of the nasal contour may occur, requiring additional adjustments.

    • Vascular Complications: There is a small risk of vascular compromise, where the filler inadvertently blocks a blood vessel, leading to skin necrosis (tissue death) or other vascular issues. This risk is minimized by choosing an experienced injector like Dr. Levites who understands facial anatomy.

    • Infection: Although rare, any injection procedure carries a slight risk of infection at the injection site. Dr. Levites follows strict sterile techniques to minimize this risk.

  • Procedure Details:

Liquid rhinoplasty is performed in-office and typically takes about 30 minutes to complete. Dr. Levites begins by applying a topical numbing cream to ensure patient comfort during the procedure. Using a fine needle, precise injections of dermal filler are strategically placed to achieve the desired nasal contour and symmetry.

    Recovery and Results:

Patients may experience minor swelling, bruising, or redness at the injection sites, which typically resolves within a few days. There is minimal downtime associated with liquid rhinoplasty, allowing patients to resume normal activities immediately after the procedure. Full results are visible once any initial swelling subsides, usually within a week, and can last up to 12-18 months depending on the type of filler used.

plastic surgery face eyes

Eye

Blepharoplasty (Eyelid Surgery) and Browlift

What is the Goal of Eyelid Surgery?

The primary goal of aesthetic eyelid surgery, or blepharoplasty, is to rejuvenate the upper face, achieving a refreshed appearance without altering the natural expression or shape of the eyes. The procedure effectively reduces the tired look associated with aging, ensuring a natural outcome devoid of obvious surgical signs.

  • Eyelid surgery involves several tailored procedures:

    • Upper Eyelids: Removal of excess skin and fat.

    • Lower Eyelids: Reduction of fat, repositioning to eliminate circles, and removal of excess skin.

    • Adjunctive Procedures: Options include chemical peels for lower eyelid skin texture and tightening loose lower eyelids.

Each procedure is customized to enhance aesthetic outcomes based on individual needs.

  • Aging effects around the eyes typically start in the mid-thirties, with women often seeking surgery in their early forties and men about a decade later. Common concerns include wrinkled upper eyelids, lower eyelid bags, and circles. Surgery effectively addresses these issues, restoring a youthful appearance.

  • Candidates for upper eyelid surgery may not require lower eyelid procedures initially. However, younger individuals with hereditary lower eyelid issues can benefit from lower eyelid surgery alone. Older patients often require combined upper and lower eyelid surgery for comprehensive rejuvenation.

  • Upper eyelid incisions are strategically placed within the natural eyelid crease, ensuring they are hidden when the eyes are open. Lower eyelid surgery, primarily involving fat treatment, utilizes internal incisions. External incisions below the eyelashes are used to address loose lower eyelid skin, which heal discreetly over time.

  • What is a Browlift?

A browlift addresses sagging eyebrows that contribute to upper eyelid hooding. This procedure complements eyelid surgery by creating a natural arch and enhancing facial harmony. Techniques involve minimal scalp incisions, often combined with upper eyelid incisions, ensuring comprehensive rejuvenation without hair removal.

    Do I Need a Browlift?

Browlifts are typically reserved for severe cases, as they can feminize male features. Most women do not require a browlift, however, this will be discussed further at your consultation with Dr. Levites depending on your aesthetic goals.

  • Dr. Levites specializes in blepharoplasty and browlift procedures tailored to achieve natural, rejuvenated results for each patient. For more information or to schedule a consultation, please contact our office.

  • For dynamic wrinkles like crow's feet, injectable paralytic agents provide effective treatment. Chemical peels and injectable fillers are also options for improving skin texture and volume around the eyes, respectively.

  • Some individuals may experience dry eye symptoms post-surgery, exacerbated by pre-existing conditions or LASIK procedures. Evaluation by an ophthalmologist is crucial to assess and manage these symptoms before proceeding with surgery.

  • Weak lower eyelids or prominent eyes can cause lower eyelid malposition, leading to a sad appearance and potential dry eye symptoms. Canthopexy, a surgical procedure, effectively restores lower eyelid tone and position.

  • Malar bags, small puffy areas beneath the lower eyelid on the cheekbone, may persist despite successful lower eyelid surgery. They are often times a result of poorly placed filler. Dr. Levites also offers doxycycline injections to treat malar bags (festoons) in those cases that are not caused by filler migration/lymphatic obstruction.

  • How Long Do the Benefits of Surgery Last?

Eyelid and browlift surgery provide long-lasting results, often lasting for decades without the need for repeat procedures.

Where is the Surgery Performed and What is the Recovery Like?

Surgery is conducted as an outpatient procedure in the office, with recovery involving minimal discomfort and swelling. Patients typically resume normal activities within a few weeks, following post-operative care guidelines.

  • Complications from eyelid and brow surgery are rare but include hematoma, infection, and temporary dry eye symptoms. Pre-existing conditions like poor skin elasticity or severe sun damage may impact surgical outcomes.

  • Costs involve surgical, anesthesia, and operating room fees, with preoperative evaluations and clearances essential before scheduling surgery.

  • Dr. Levites specializes in blepharoplasty and browlift procedures tailored to achieve natural, rejuvenated results for each patient. For more information or to schedule a consultation, please contact our office.

Lip

Central Lip Lift

A central lip lift is a cosmetic surgery procedure focused on enhancing the central portion of the upper lip, often referred to as the cupid's bow area. This technique is ideal for individuals seeking to improve lip proportion, achieve a more defined lip shape, and create a youthful appearance by shortening the distance between the nose and the upper lip. It is a wonderful approach to correcting “overfilled” lips, in conjunction with filler dissolving agents.

  • At our practice, we prioritize personalized care and attention to detail. During your initial consultation, our experienced plastic surgeon will conduct a thorough assessment of your facial anatomy and discuss your aesthetic goals. Together, we will create a customized treatment plan tailored to achieve natural-looking results that enhance your overall facial harmony.

  • The central lip lift procedure is performed under local anesthesia to ensure your comfort throughout the surgery. Dr. Levites carefully makes a well-planned incision just beneath the base of the nose, where it will be discreetly hidden within the natural contours. Through this incision, excess skin is removed and the underlying tissues are gently lifted to elevate the cupid's bow and expose more of the upper teeth when the lips are relaxed.

  • Following the central lip lift, patients may experience mild swelling and bruising, which typically subsides within a few days. We provide detailed post-operative instructions to optimize healing and minimize discomfort. Patients can expect to see immediate enhancement in the shape and fullness of the upper lip, with final results becoming more apparent as swelling resolves.

  • Our practice is committed to achieving beautiful, natural-looking outcomes while prioritizing patient safety and satisfaction. With a focus on meticulous technique and personalized care, we aim to exceed your expectations and help you achieve the lips you desire.

  • If you're considering a central lip lift to enhance your facial aesthetics, we invite you to schedule a consultation with our board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. Levites. Together, we can explore your options and create a treatment plan tailored to your unique goals. Contact us today to take the first step towards a more confident, rejuvenated appearance.

Corner Lip Lift

A corner lip lift, also known as a corner of the mouth lift or smile lift, is a specialized surgical procedure designed to elevate the corners of the mouth, creating a more youthful and aesthetically pleasing smile. Dr. Levites specializes in this minimally invasive technique to enhance facial harmony and restore a natural, confident expression. This procedure is not offered routinely but is sometimes necessary in conjunction with a central lip lift for overall lip harmony.

  • The corner lip lift procedure is performed under local anesthesia to ensure patient comfort throughout the process. Dr. Levites begins by carefully marking the precise points at the corners of the mouth, taking into account the patient's unique facial anatomy and desired aesthetic outcomes.

    1. Incision Placement: Dr. Levites makes small, inconspicuous incisions at the junction of the upper lip and the corner of the mouth. These incisions are strategically placed to minimize visible scarring and achieve symmetrical results.

    2. Tissue Adjustment: Through these incisions, precise adjustments are made to the underlying muscle and tissue structure. Excess tissue is gently removed, and the remaining tissues are meticulously repositioned to elevate the corners of the mouth.

    3. Suture Technique: Specialized sutures are then used to secure the newly positioned tissues in place. These sutures are carefully placed to ensure optimal support and long-lasting results.

    • Youthful Appearance: Elevates drooping corners of the mouth, restoring a more youthful and attractive smile.

    • Natural Results: Enhances facial harmony by improving the balance and symmetry of the lips and mouth.

    • Minimal Downtime: Typically, patients experience minimal downtime and discomfort, allowing for a quicker recovery compared to more invasive procedures.

  • Recovery and Post-Operative Care

Following the corner lip lift procedure, patients are provided with detailed post-operative instructions by Dr. Levites. These instructions include:

    • Use of Cold Compresses: Applying cold compresses to reduce swelling and discomfort.

    • Medication Management: Prescribing pain medications or antibiotics as needed.

    • Follow-Up Visits: Scheduling follow-up visits to monitor healing progress and ensure optimal results.

    Long-Term Results

Patients can expect to see immediate improvement in the appearance of their smile after the corner lip lift procedure. As swelling subsides and tissues settle into their new position, final results become more apparent within a few weeks. The rejuvenated smile achieved through this procedure is long-lasting and enhances overall facial aesthetics.

  • Consultation with Dr. Levites

During your initial consultation with Dr. Levites, he will carefully evaluate your facial anatomy and discuss your aesthetic goals for improving the corners of your mouth. He will explain the corner lip lift procedure in detail, address any questions or concerns you may have, and create a personalized treatment plan tailored to your unique needs.

    Schedule Your Consultation

If you are interested in enhancing your smile with a corner lip lift or would like to learn more about this procedure, we invite you to schedule a consultation with Dr. Levites. Our goal is to help you achieve natural-looking, beautiful results that enhance your facial features and boost your confidence.

Breast

Breast Reduction

Goal of Breast Reduction

Breast reduction surgery aims to alleviate chronic symptoms associated with large breasts and enhance breast aesthetics. This procedure also addresses clothing challenges and boosts self-esteem, contributing to high patient satisfaction despite significant scarring.

  • Breast reduction effectively reduces neck and back pain caused by heavy breasts. Although shoulder grooving from bra straps may persist, associated discomfort is alleviated. Rashes under the breasts often resolve post-surgery. Improved posture results from reduced breast weight and increased confidence.

  • Ideal candidates for breast reduction surgery span various age groups. Young women aged 15-30 experiencing discomfort from large breasts and older women with breast enlargement due to weight gain or menopause-related changes benefit significantly from this procedure.

  • Candidates for breast reduction surgery typically demonstrate a longstanding commitment to the procedure, often despite parental concerns regarding its permanence. Stable breast size, indicated by no growth for at least six months and regular menstruation, is crucial for young candidates.

  • BMI, a measure of weight health based on height and weight, plays a critical role in surgical candidacy. Individuals with a BMI over 30 (obese category) face higher risks of complications such as infection and delayed wound healing. Weight loss before surgery is advised to minimize these risks.

  • Surgical Approach: Breast reduction surgery involves removing skin from the lower breast to access underlying glandular tissue. The outer breast area is primarily reduced, with less tissue removed centrally and least from the inner breast. The procedure includes repositioning the nipple upward and reducing the areola diameter without disconnecting them from the breast.

Surgical Options: Two main techniques exist for breast reduction:

    • Traditional Method: Results in a "anchor" scar pattern encircling the areola, vertically down to the breast crease, and along the crease itself.

    • Lejour (Lollipop) Method: Involves fewer scars—around the areola and vertically to the breast crease, omitting the crease scar. This method can narrow wide breasts and enhance breast projection compared to the traditional approach.

  • Scars typically fade significantly within a year. The traditional method may result in more noticeable scars under the breasts. Individual scar characteristics such as thickness and color may vary, though most patients are satisfied with their appearance post-surgery.

  • Breast reduction surgery reduces the breast footprint on the chest wall, impacting bra cup size. While exact cup size reduction varies, most patients decrease by at least one cup size; those with DD or larger breasts often reduce by two. The focus is on relieving symptoms and achieving optimal breast shape rather than achieving a specific cup size.

  • After breast reduction, wearing a bra remains necessary but is more for support than lift. A surgical lift achieved during the procedure enhances bra comfort and nipple concealment.

  • Breast tissue removal may affect nipple sensation, occasionally resulting in temporary or permanent loss. Breastfeeding capability is reduced and should be considered prior to surgery in women who are not yet done with child-bearing.

  • Results of breast reduction surgery are generally long-lasting, barring significant weight gain, multiple pregnancies, or menopause-related changes. Repeat procedures are rare, and most patients experience sustained satisfaction with their outcomes.

  • Performed in our accredited office operating room, breast reduction surgery typically lasts 2-3 hours depending on breast size. General anesthesia ensures patient comfort, overseen by a board-certified anesthesiologist using state-of-the-art monitoring equipment.

  • Breast reduction surgery can be combined with procedures like rhinoplasty or eyelid surgery. Recovery involves wearing a surgical bra for several weeks. Dr. Levites does not use drains. Most normal activities resume after a week, while strenuous activities are postponed for two months.

  • Surgical fees cover various aspects such as anesthesia, operating room use, and pathology studies of removed tissue. Insurance coverage varies widely based on policy specifics and documented symptom severity pre-surgery. Dr. Levites’ office does not accept insurance; if you are looking to have insurance cover your procedure please call our office for referral to another surgeon.

  • To explore breast reduction surgery tailored to your needs, schedule a consultation with Dr. Levites. Comprehensive evaluation and personalized surgical planning await to help you achieve relief from discomfort and enhance your quality of life. Contact us today to begin your journey toward improved breast health and confidence.

Mastopexy (Breast Lift)

Goal of Mastopexy

Mastopexy, commonly known as a breast lift, aims to elevate sagging breasts, reposition drooping nipples, and reduce enlarged areolas. While this procedure improves breast shape and skin tone, it involves a trade-off with permanent scars. Mastopexy does not alter the appearance of breasts when supported by a bra and clothing. It can also include breast enlargement if implants are incorporated simultaneously.

  • Mastopexy lifts the breasts moderately, improving their position and enhancing areolar aesthetics. However, it cannot entirely eliminate breast overhang, as the technique involves lifting the breasts from below to minimize scars on the lower breast area. This approach contrasts with the higher lifting demonstrated when pulling the breasts upward manually.

  • Ideal candidates for mastopexy are often postpartum women experiencing breast sagging following multiple pregnancies and breastfeeding. These patients typically present with breasts showing signs of deflation, such as stretch marks, downward-pointing nipples, and enlarged areolas. Individuals who have undergone significant weight loss after bariatric surgery and exhibit pronounced breast sagging also benefit greatly from mastopexy.

  • Ideally, Ccandidates should undergo mastopexy only after completing their family planning, as subsequent pregnancies can affect surgical outcomes. Patients who have experienced substantial weight loss should maintain a stable weight for at least six months before considering surgery.

  • During mastopexy, excess skin is removed primarily from the lower breast area to minimize visible scarring. The nipple position is elevated without disconnecting it from the breast tissue, ensuring preservation of sensation. The resulting scar pattern typically encircles the areola and extends vertically downward to the breast crease. More extensive cases may involve an additional scar in the crease under the breast.

  • To achieve a fuller upper breast contour, mastopexy may involve rearranging breast tissue internally or combining the procedure with breast implants. Implants added during mastopexy enhance upper breast fullness, albeit at the cost of a longer, more involved recovery and higher procedure complexity, risk of complications, and cost.

  • Scars from mastopexy are permanent but typically fade significantly within a year. The vertical scar may be more noticeable as it is not concealed within a natural crease or hidden by the areola. Scar appearance varies among individuals and can be influenced by skin tension during healing.

  • Following mastopexy, wearing a supportive bra remains necessary to counteract the effects of gravity and support the newly lifted breasts. However, bras are generally more comfortable post-surgery, as they primarily maintain breast position rather than provide extensive lift.

  • Mastopexy predominantly involving skin removal minimally affects nipple sensation. More invasive procedures that involve internal tissue manipulation or augmentation may pose a higher risk of temporary or permanent sensation changes. The procedure typically does not hinder future breastfeeding ability, especially when limited to skin tightening.

  • While mastopexy provides long-lasting breast elevation and reshaping benefits, factors such as aging, weight fluctuations, and pregnancy can influence breast position over time. Minor revisions, usually involving less extensive procedures, may address future changes without creating new scars.

  • Procedure Details: Mastopexy is performed as an outpatient procedure in our office operating room, lasting approximately two and a half hours. When combined with implants, the procedure duration increases by at least an hour.

Combined Procedures and Recovery: Mastopexy without augmentation can be combined with various aesthetic procedures, provided total surgery time does not exceed six hours. Recovery involves wearing a front-opening surgical bra for several weeks, with no drains or stitches requiring removal. Patients typically resume non-strenuous activities within a week and gradually return to more intense exercise over several weeks.

  • Surgical costs encompass procedure, anesthesia, operating room use, and any implants if applicable. Preoperative evaluations include breast anatomy assessment, customized surgical planning, and necessary lab tests. Patients over forty or with a family history of breast cancer should undergo a mammogram if not recently performed.

  • For personalized mastopexy consultation and tailored surgical planning, schedule an appointment with Dr. Heather Levites today. Our commitment is to enhance your breast aesthetics while ensuring your comfort and satisfaction throughout the surgical journey. Breast Augmentation

Enhancing Confidence and Body Image

Breast augmentation is a transformative procedure aimed at enhancing breast size and shape, ultimately boosting self-confidence and resolving issues related to clothing fit, such as discomfort with padded bras and swimwear. Dr. Levites specializes in tailoring each augmentation to the unique anatomical features and aesthetic goals of her patients.

  • Ideal candidates for breast augmentation include women with a naturally pleasing breast shape that they wish to enhance. This can include women who have experienced changes post-pregnancy or breastfeeding, where breasts may appear deflated but retain good natural shape. Additionally, women with minimal breast tissue and less defined breast creases can also benefit significantly from augmentation, achieving rounder breast contours that align with their desired appearance.

  • Dr. Levites also addresses challenging breast shapes, such as breasts with varying degrees of droopiness (ptosis) or those with a short distance between the areola and breast crease. In some cases, combining augmentation with a lift may be necessary to achieve optimal results, ensuring natural-looking outcomes without shape abnormalities.

  • Fat Transfer Procedure

For patients preferring a more natural approach, Dr. Levites offers natural breast augmentation using fat transfer. This innovative technique involves harvesting excess fat from areas like the abdomen or thighs via liposuction. The purified fat is then meticulously injected into the breasts to increase volume and improve contour. This method provides a subtle enhancement using the patient's own tissue, resulting in breasts that both look and feel natural.

    • Natural Look and Feel: Utilizes the patient's own fat for augmentation, resulting in breasts that mimic natural tissue.

    • Dual Benefits: Simultaneously contours donor areas via liposuction.

    • Minimal Scarring: Small incisions for liposuction and fat transfer minimize visible scarring.

    • Avoids Implant-related Risks: Eliminates risks associated with implants, such as rupture, capsular contracture, and Breast Implant Illness.

    • Fat Resorption: Some transferred fat may be reabsorbed by the body, impacting final breast size. You can except a maximum increase of one cup size.

    • Multiple Sessions: Achieving desired volume may require more than one fat transfer session.

    • Calcifications: Formation of calcifications in breast tissue may affect mammogram interpretation.

    • Surgical Risks: Potential risks common to any surgical procedure, such as infection or asymmetry.

  • Choosing the Right Approach

During your consultation with Dr. Levites, both traditional implant-based augmentation and natural fat transfer options will be discussed in detail. The choice will depend on your aesthetic goals, body type, and medical considerations to ensure the most suitable procedure for achieving your desired results.

    Step 2: Anesthesia and Preparation

    • Anesthesia: Local anesthesia is typically administered to ensure patient comfort during the procedure.

    • Preparation: The nipple area is cleansed and prepared for surgery.

    Step 3: Surgical Techniques

    • Release of Tethering Tissues: Dr. Levites carefully releases the tight bands of tissue that cause the nipple to invert.

    • Nipple Projection: Techniques are employed to create a more prominent nipple projection using internal sutures or tissue rearrangement.

    • Milk Ducts: This procedure is generally reserved for women who are done with breast feeding, as the milk ducts to the nipple are often injured during the procedure.

    Step 4: Closure and Recovery

    • Incision Closure: Incisions are meticulously closed with fine sutures to minimize scarring.

    • Dressing: A sterile dressing or surgical tape is applied to protect the surgical site.

    • Post-operative Care: Instructions are provided on wound care, wearing a supportive bra, and follow-up appointments for monitoring.

    • Healing Process: Patients can typically resume normal activities within a few days, with minimal discomfort.

    • Results: Improved nipple projection and symmetry are noticeable immediately, with final results becoming more apparent as healing progresses.

    • Long-term Outcome: The procedure aims to provide long-lasting correction, enhancing nipple appearance and function.

Breast Implant Explantation and Total Capsulectomy

Breast implant explantation with total capsulectomy is a surgical procedure aimed at removing breast implants and the surrounding scar tissue (capsule). This procedure is performed to address various concerns, including implant-related complications, aesthetic dissatisfaction, or health issues associated with breast implants.

  • Patients may choose breast implant removal for several reasons:

    • Health Concerns: Symptoms associated with Breast Implant Illness (BII), such as fatigue, joint pain, or cognitive issues.

    • Implant Complications: Risks like capsular contracture (scar tissue tightening around the implant), Breast Implant-Associated Anaplastic Large Cell Lymphoma (BIA-ALCL), or Breast Implant-Associated Squamous Cell Carcinoma (BIA-SCC).

    • Aesthetic Preferences: Desire to return to natural breast appearance and size.

  • Step 1: Evaluation and Planning

    • Consultation: Dr. Levites evaluates your medical history, symptoms, and current breast condition.

    • Imaging: Pre-operative imaging may include ultrasound or MRI to assess implant integrity and capsule thickness.

    Step 2: Surgery Preparation

    • Anesthesia: General anesthesia is administered to ensure patient comfort and safety during the procedure.

Step 3: Implant Removal and Capsulectomy

    • Incision: Dr. Levites carefully makes an incision along the previous scar or a new incision depending on the patient’s anatomy and preferences.

    • Implant Removal: Breast implants are meticulously removed, and the surrounding capsule tissue is dissected and excised to ensure complete removal.

    • Capsulectomy: Total capsulectomy involves removing the entire capsule to minimize the risk of recurrence and to improve aesthetic outcomes.

    Step 4: Pectoralis Muscle Repair

    • Muscle Integrity: In cases where the implant was placed under the muscle, the pectoralis major muscle may need repair to restore its anatomical position and integrity.

    • Suture Technique: Dr. Levites uses advanced surgical techniques to repair and ensure optimal function of the muscle.

Step 5: Drain Placement (if needed)

    • Drain Insertion: Temporary drains may be placed to prevent fluid buildup and aid in healing. Drains are typically removed within a few days post-surgery.

    Step 6: Closure and Recovery

    • Closure: Incisions are meticulously closed with sutures to minimize scarring.

    • Recovery: Post-operative care includes wearing a surgical bra for support and attending follow-up appointments to monitor healing and address any concerns.

  • Breast Implant Illness (BII):

    • Symptoms such as fatigue, joint pain, and cognitive issues that may improve after implant removal.

Breast Implant-Associated Anaplastic Large Cell Lymphoma (BIA-ALCL):

    • A rare type of lymphoma associated with textured breast implants. Total capsulectomy is crucial for treatment.

Breast Implant-Associated Squamous Cell Carcinoma (BIA-SCC):

    • A very rare cancer linked to breast implants. Early detection and complete capsule removal are essential for treatment.

    Capsular Contracture:

    • Excessive scar tissue formation around the implant, causing firmness or distortion of the breast shape. Total capsulectomy helps prevent recurrence.

Body

Abdominoplasty

Abdominoplasty, commonly known as a tummy tuck, is a surgical procedure designed to flatten the abdomen, tighten the skin, and enhance the waistline contour. The extent of the procedure varies based on the amount of excess skin and fat, as well as the degree of muscle laxity present. Liposuction of the waist and lower back areas is almost always included to achieve optimal results.

  • Abdominoplasty is most frequently sought by postpartum women who experience significant stretching of the lower abdominal skin after multiple pregnancies. This can lead to issues such as umbilical hernias and separation of abdominal muscles, resulting in noticeable bulging.

Few men are typically candidates for abdominoplasty unless they exhibit significant abdominal protrusion due to excess fat that cannot be addressed solely through surgery. Men with localized fat deposits in the lower abdomen and hips ("love handles") may be better candidates for liposuction.

Individuals who have lost over 100 pounds following bariatric surgery are also often excellent candidates for abdominoplasty, primarily to remove excess skin with potential muscle tightening.

  • For optimal results, abdominoplasty should be delayed until at least six months after the last pregnancy to allow for natural skin contraction and muscle tightening. It should also be postponed if future pregnancies are planned. Similarly, in patients who have undergone significant weight loss, the procedure is typically deferred until weight has stabilized for six months to a year. From a logistical standpoint, most mother’s wait 2 years after the birth of their last child for abdominoplasty due to the 6 week restriction of weight lifting, as it makes transfer of small children into a car seat or crib difficult without full time assistance.

  • Abdominoplasty procedures vary depending on individual needs:

    • Reverse Abdominoplasty: Suitable for those whose skin laxity is limited to the area above the belly button, and ideally who have also had a breast reduction or lift in the past.

    • “Mini” Abdominoplasty : A misnomer, there are very few patients who are candidates for a true mini abdominoplasty. This procedure targets muscle laxity and limited excess lower abdominal skin. The ideal candidate has a belly button that sits “high”, also of low BMI.

    • Complete or “Full” Abdominoplasty: Involves maximum removal of excess skin and stretch marks, with abdominal muscle tightening and possible liposuction of flanks and lower back. The belly button is repositioned to allow for maximal skin tightening.

  • While exercise and weight loss can offer some benefits, they are often insufficient for individuals with significant skin laxity and muscle separation. Surgical intervention remains the most effective option in such cases.

  • Factors such as rectus diastasis (separation of abdominal muscles), umbilical hernias, and body mass index (BMI) are carefully evaluated and treated as part of the abdominoplasty process. Surgical risks and recovery expectations are thoroughly discussed to ensure informed decision-making.

  • Dr. Levites performs all surgeries in a safe, outpatient setting. Specialized post-operative care, including overnight care in her facility with both a specialized nurse and nursing assistant, ensures optimal recovery and minimizes potential complications.

  • During your initial consultation, a personalized surgical plan will be developed based on your specific goals and medical history. Dr. Levites emphasizes patient education and encourages questions to ensure each patient feels confident and informed throughout their surgical journey.

Patients should plan for 6 weeks of no heavy lifting, greater than 5 pounds. Patients who work from home generally take off 1 week. Those who work at a desk generally take 2 weeks off of work. For those in more active job positions, Dr. Levites will discuss downtime on a case by case basis.

  • Detailed information regarding surgery costs, anesthesia fees, and preoperative requirements is provided during the consultation process. Clear guidance on steps leading up to surgery, including necessary medical clearances, ensures a smooth and well-prepared experience.

Liposuction

Liposuction is a specialized surgical procedure designed to contour the body by removing localized fat deposits that are resistant to diet and exercise. It targets areas such as the thighs, hips, abdomen, and knees in women, and areas like the neck, arms, and abdomen in men. Liposuction is not intended for overall weight loss but rather for enhancing body proportions and contour.

  • Liposuction is a safe procedure when performed by a trained and experienced plastic surgeon like Dr. Levites. Instances of complications reported in the media often involve inexperienced practitioners, inappropriate candidate selection, or excessive fat removal. Dr. Levites ensures safety by adhering to established guidelines and limits for fat extraction. Dr. Levites offers both awake (non general anesthesia) liposuction as well as liposuction with full anesthesia depending on the patient and his or her preferences.

  • Ideal candidates for liposuction are generally young adults or older individuals of normal weight with firm skin and localized fat deposits. While younger patients typically achieve optimal results, those over forty with good skin elasticity can also benefit. Patients who are significantly overweight may experience more modest outcomes.

  • The procedure begins with meticulous markings on the treatment areas, mapping out fat deposits and contours for precise sculpting. Cannulas—hollow tubes—are then used to dislodge and suction out fat cells through small incisions strategically placed to minimize scarring. Dr. Levites employs advanced techniques such as the tumescent method, which involves injecting fluid to minimize bleeding and discomfort.

    Types of Liposuction Techniques:

    • Traditional Tumescent Liposuction: Uses manual cannula movement to remove fat.

    • Power Assisted Liposuction (PAL): Incorporates an electric motor in the cannula to reduce physical exertion and enhance precision.

    • Laser Assisted Liposuction (SmartLipo): Utilizes laser energy to liquefy fat cells and stimulate skin tightening, offering minimal advantages over traditional methods. This technology is more antiquated and not taught in training programs any longer. Dr. Levites uses more modern adjunctive skin tightening technologies.

  • Following liposuction, patients wear compression garments to minimize swelling and support the newly contoured areas. Mild discomfort and bruising typically subside within a few weeks. Dr. Levites provides personalized post-operative care instructions to ensure a smooth recovery process and optimal results. She highly recommends post-operative lymphatic massage which she offers in house to her patients.

  • Liposuction can be combined with other surgical procedures like breast augmentation or abdominoplasty (tummy tuck) to achieve comprehensive body contouring goals. Dr. Levites discusses potential combined procedures during your consultation to customize treatment plans according to your aesthetic objectives.

  • Consultation and Costs:

During your initial consultation, Dr. Levites evaluates your candidacy for liposuction based on your medical history and aesthetic goals. Comprehensive pricing details covering surgery, anesthesia, and preoperative assessments are provided to ensure transparency and informed decision-making.

Fat Transfer

Dr. Levites offers advanced fat transfer procedures to enhance various areas of the body, including the buttocks (Brazilian Butt Lift - BBL), breasts, hands, and face. These procedures utilize a patient’s own fat to achieve natural-looking volume enhancement and contouring.

  • Breast fat transfer involves harvesting fat from donor sites, purifying it, and injecting it into the breasts to enhance volume and shape. This procedure offers a natural alternative to breast implants for augmentation or reconstruction.

  • Benefits include natural-feeling breast augmentation and improved breast symmetry. Risks include infection, calcification (potential for breast imaging interference), and fat necrosis. Dr. Levites ensures careful patient selection and technique to optimize outcomes.

Breast Fat Transfer

  • Brazilian Butt Lift involves harvesting fat from areas of excess, purifying it, and injecting it into the buttocks to enhance shape and volume. Dr. Levites utilizes advanced techniques to sculpt the buttocks, providing a fuller, more youthful appearance.

  • Benefits of BBL include enhanced buttock contour and improved body proportions. Risks include infection, asymmetry, fat embolism (rare but serious), and potential for fat reabsorption. Dr. Levites prioritizes safety and uses ultrasound guidance to ensure precise fat placement and minimize risks.

  • Harvested fat undergoes a purification process to separate viable fat cells from blood and fluids, ensuring optimal graft survival and long-term results.

  • Fat survival rates vary, with typically 60-80% of transferred fat remaining viable. Dr. Levites employs meticulous techniques to maximize fat retention and achieve desired outcomes.

  • Ultrasound is used during BBL to enhance safety by visualizing blood vessels and ensuring precise fat injection into the buttock muscles. This technique minimizes the risk of fat embolism and enhances overall procedural safety.

  • Consultation and Personalized Treatment

Dr. Levites provides comprehensive consultations to discuss each patient's aesthetic goals, assess candidacy, and create personalized treatment plans. She emphasizes patient safety, natural results, and ongoing support throughout the recovery process.
